So far the model seems to be going well, at least for a first time effort. I have the fuselage boxed out and its time to allow this bad boy to take flight, it needs a pair of wings. So only one wing need be modelled, as symmetry will do the honours of making life simple. Again a box was drawn up and edited in poly mode. Using mainly the scale gismo to shape out the initial shape and the move gismo to tweak a couple of vertices i ended up with a pretty decent looking wing shape.
To attach it to the fuselage, i first need to shape a hole in the main body the same as my wing. Using the cut tool i traced round the outline of the wing onto the fuselage and then deleted the polys where it would sit, and then the open vertices between wing and fuselage were target welded together....
..and now it really is starting to resemble an aircraft of sorts, rather than half a hollowed out log.
Next is the tail fin which was a similar sort of porcess, the basic editable poly box shaped out in a fin shape like the rest. Except when it came to attaching it was a bit more complex, lining up of all the vertices and edges to keep them running through the model was a bit tricky. But once they were near enough lined up, any redundant polys were deleted the edge vertices were welded together, and the process was repeated with the rear wing.
I should point out at this stage i had possibly added a few to many redundant polys through the main body of the fuselage being new to all this, and a bit of a perfectionist, i spent time and effort in exacting the shape and smoothing it manually. I removed a fair few polys and tidied it up a bit before continuing further, but i was still impressed with what id managed to acheive.
