Studying a Bachelor Degree in Game Art, hopefully learning the skills to design model and texture characters in a game ready fashion, and how not to chronically abuse 3d studio max i have decided to compile a journal of my day to day workings...

Let There Be Light.

Almost finished. All the hard graft is done, and it is now time to get the camera out and shoot the bugger.

With a simple light rig of 8 fill lights and a key light casting an area shadow i have produced some realistic renders of my mustang. To illustrate our model completely we were asked to render it in several different ways, grey render using a simple grey diffuse map to reduce the detail.

We were shown this great material called Ink and paint to produce a 2 dimensional render of the wireframe adding definition to the model. With this i tried several colours and line sizes and became partial to a pale blue paint with a light grey ink.

Then to the dismay of my graphics card i added a subtle reflective map, falloff with a sub material raytrace and increased the specular and glossiness level slightly. It took ages to render, and when it finished it didnt look all that good, with some free time ill play around with the settings and try produce a nice render with it on.

with the reflection map on.

well i think thats enough renders for now. Today ive been working on a little animation scene, and am currently waiting on the render, and should hopefully have it posted this weekend.
